Neuro Pathology

Dr. A. K. Sharma

A Neuro- Scientist of International Repute Graduation in Human Anatomy from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Ph.D in the Faculty of Medicine (Neuro-Pathology) from the University of London. He is a British citizen as well.

Dr. Sharma has many scholarships and awards to his credit such as The Merit Scholarships (Punjab University, India) and the D.G.H.S. scholarship (India) and Medical Research Council’s award in 1987 to study diabetic neuropathy at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis. U.S.A. He has a wide range of experience in teaching in the fields of gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, histology, embryology in the Immunology, Musculo- skeletal. Urogenital reproduction and alimentary modules. Dr. Sharma has also participated in the design and development of new courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students in the U.K., U.S.A. and the U.A.F. In the UAF University he coordinated the Neuroscience module for 10 years.

For the past 53 years Dr. Sharma has been teaching in various disciplines of Human Anatomy to medical students in India. The U.K., U.S.A and the U.A.E. He was a lecturer at:

  • The Christian Medical College Vellore, India
  • The Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine London
  • The University of Aberdeen, Scotland
  • The UAE University in Al-Ain( Associate Professor)
  • Visiting professor in Indianapolis, USA

Dr. Sharma has been involved with research in the field of diabetes and its complications for the past 45 years. He has produced 2 books. Contributed 14 chapters to various books of high international standards and published sixty paper in numerous leading scientific journals on diabetes. He has given over 120 Lectures, seminars and papers throughout the world including India, The Middle East Europe, North America, Australia, Africa and Japan. He obtained grants from the British Diabetic Association. Other councils and several pharmaceutical companies to carry out his research projects. Dr. Sharma has supervised 15 Ph.D, M. Phil., M.D, and postgraduate research students.

Dr. Sharma was the Founder and Editor- In-Chief of the ‘International Journal of Diabetes and Metabolism’ from 1993 to 2001. He was also the founding member of the Al-Ain Diabetic Research Group.

The ‘Society of NRI and Indians awarded Dr. Sharma with the ‘Hind Rattan’ award in 1995 and the ‘Sword of Honour’ in 1996. At present he is the Chairman and Chief Executive officer of the International Medicines & Health Care Clinic in the U.K. and also the managing director of the Dehradun branch of the I.M.H.C.
